A very clever book which blends the protection of the environment with compelling/relatable animal characters. Would be a great story for parents to read to their kids...it is not a simple story, but one designed to make the reader/listener think.

Charlie, a Shiba Inu (based on a real dog in Seattle), is a fierce samurai who is calling young readers to the watch. He and his band of surfing dogs plan to do what the coast guard has failed to do.

The moon will be full soon. Time is short. Hundreds of baby turtles will hatch and race for the sea. Poachers threaten. But not only turtle lives are at stake... all of Charlie's animal friends are in danger.

Perfect for children ages seven to thirteen to read alone, or as a read-aloud family story for newer readers. First Watch is engagingly written by Kathleen Stickney and beautifully illustrated by Sophia Scull. Fiercely loyal, brave Charlie is showing up for our earthly home. He strives to be a sentry at our planet's gate and in the process becomes a role model for readers of all ages. Everyone can watch over our planet.
