Myths and Facts About the Shiba Inu
Fact:
The Shiba Inu is a Japanese dog that protected, and hunted with the Samurai, in ancient times.
Myth:
The Shiba barks often.
In fact the Shiba rarely barks and then mostly to give warning. However, it has an extensive dog vocabulary with whistles, grunts, sneezes and the rare “shiba scream”. The scream is a loud, high pitched distress call that will give you goose bumps if you ever hear it.
Fact:
Of all canine species, the Shiba’s ancestry is the closest to that of the wild wolf.
As one of the first domesticated dogs it joined man, in his caves, during the Stone Age.
Myth:
The Shiba loves to play and cuddle.
While this dog is loyal and loving it is also aloof. It prefers to observe and watch. Its personality reflects the focused, serious Samurai.
Fact:
The Shiba Inu is the National Dog of Japan.
Its name means “little red dog” (also sometimes called the “little Brushwood dog”).
